Wow, I am so darn happy!  Last night I added another 'mouth to feed' to my 'family' here at Newt'z Zoo!  I mean, hey...I didn't really 'need' another pet, but whoever does?  I've wanted one of these beauties for a long, long time, and my patience paid off last night!

Craig's List, of course, did it again!  That place is full of 'nutz,' to put it mildly.  We think some of these 'koi forums' are bad, and sure, they are...but Craig's List has more than their share of absolute crazies.  Anyway, that's not the point of this thread...obviously, often enough there are great people on there, who honestly have a desire or need to 're-home' (you can't 'sell' your pet on CL!  Roll Eyes ) there critter.  I have found ferrets (of course, now that people have found that I will 'rescue' the little ratz, they call me whenever they need one taken in...18 now!), as well as geckos, rats, mice, snakes, my mastiff Ratchet, and probably some other animals that I'm forgetting now.

Several days ago, a guy ran an ad looking for a good home for his blue and gold macaw.  Like I said, I've wanted a big bird for a long time now.  I've had Wizard, my African gray (grEy?), for about 20 years, and love him to death...but I've also wanted a big bird of the macaw persuasion.  To make a long story short, after about a hundred emails this guy got in response to his ad, he chose me as the most sincere, experienced and caring person that contacted him regarding his bird.  He said 99% of the people that got in touch with him were so 'out there' that he would never, ever use Craig's List again, and he only had four, including me, that he spent any time at all getting to 'know' exchanging emails.  I was pretty happy that he picked me, hands down, as the person he wanted to take his bird in...he said my 'maturity' compared to the three other couples that he got to know made me the most likely person to care for his bird like he wanted it cared for...being 'old' helped in this case!  He charged a very, very small 'adoption fee' for his baby, and included a large wrought-iron cage in the deal.  I went last night to meet him and to pick up my new macaw!  I feel sorry for the guy...he was crying when he said goodbye to his bird, as he really didn't want to have to let it go.  With a promotion at work, though, he has to travel a lot more, and this bird...unlike his other two or his three large dogs...wasn't coping well with his absence.  He did this for the bird's well-being, as much as it hurt him.  A really nice guy, actually, who honestly cares about his pets and animals in general, and truly wanted a great home for his baby, with money the least important thing.  That's good, though, as money is the one thing I don't have!  Shocked

Well, here he is...two years old, a male, who already says about 15 words/phrases and is probably the prettiest blue and gold I've seen!  I'm probably going to rename him 'Blueberry'...so hey, meet Blueberry, y'all!!!

Very Pretty!  I miss Macaw's,  WE had Capitan, he would whistle whenever a girl bent over, & JD was just as bad.  Have you had a Macaw before?  I'm asking because at 2yr old they are really quite similar to a 2 year old but with alto more strength.  Keep an eye on him, LOL because  JD stood for Juvenal Deliquint and man was he ever!  Ripped the leg off the coffee table one time & cackled like a bastard while we tried to get the leg back.

Thank you, all!  I'm already in love with this bird!  The gentleman I got it from said that as he was gone for work more of late the bird wasn't dealing well with his absence...as I said...so he felt it would get worse rather than better.  His other animals are dealing with it just fine, but Blueberry is a more 'dependent' bird, which makes for a great pet as long as you have the time to give to him.  I do, and I'm really enjoying working with him, and it's paying off already.  He's already stepped up on my arm several times, last night and then today, and he'll sit on my shoulder while I'm typing on the computer, and he'll watch the screen and seems to enjoy it.  He does love the attention!  He's saying 'hello' a lot...from right off in the morning when I take his blankie off his cage.  I know he'll start saying some of his other words/phrases soon...and I will be teaching him more things, of course.

He's sitting on the back of my computer chair right now, calmly grooming himself and seemingly relaxed and trusting and happy.  It's easy to read a bird's 'moods,' in most cases, and his is 'good,' for sure.  I'm very happy about that, and with the progress we've made so far.  William, the guy I got him from, figured it would take his bird a few weeks or a couple months to get settled in, and he said he shouldn't visit too soon, as it would probably cause a 'setback' in the changeover if he did.  I don't think that now, to be honest, as Blueberry is making the 'move' easily and quickly.  Hell, I haven't even 'bled' much, to speak of.  A few 'pokes' from his very sharp claws as he's on my arms and neck/shoulders, and an occasional 'nip' that is somewhat 'firm' but doesn't hurt or draw blood at all, is about it from him.  Wizard was/is much, much worse, and he and the couple working on him lost a lot of blood!  'She' (they think it's a female...I should have it's DNA checked) is pretty much calmed down now, but not happy at all.

Anyway, more to come.  This is a great bird!
